A Decade Apart, A Lifetime of Love
Today marks ten years since our beautiful Esther gained her angel wings.
Ten years.
In some ways it feels impossible that a whole decade has passed since we held her hand, heard her laugh, and watched her light up every room she entered. Yet in other ways, it feels as though it was only yesterday.
People often say that time heals. I am not sure that is entirely true. Time does not remove the love, the longing, or the memories. What time does is teach us how to carry them. It teaches us how to keep moving forward while holding someone forever in our hearts.
Esther was only four years old when cancer took her from us. She was brave, determined, funny, and full of life. Although her time on earth was far too short, the impact she made has been immeasurable.
Over the past ten years, we have celebrated birthdays without her, marked milestones she should have shared, and imagined the young woman she might have become. There have been moments of profound sadness, but also moments of gratitude for having been blessed to know and love her.
Through Esther’s Rainbow, through the friendships formed, the memories shared, and the support given to childhood cancer charities, Esther’s legacy continues to shine. Her story has touched far more people than we could ever have imagined.
Today, we remember not only the day we lost her, but the precious four years we had with her. We remember her smile, her courage, her kindness, and the joy she brought to our lives.
To everyone who has remembered Esther over the years, who has spoken her name, shared a memory, lit a candle, left a message, made a donation, or simply held our family in your thoughts—thank you. Your kindness has helped keep her memory alive.
Esther will always be our daughter, Alice’s sister, and a cherished part of our family. Ten years may have passed, but our love for her has never faded. It never will.
Forever loved.
Forever missed.
Forever remembered.
